Hi Jo. How would you describe Bright Branch Media and what it does?

Bright Branch Media is a high-end Welsh production indie that has two main arms to the business. We're a production company that makes factual documentaries for TV and VOD channels. We’re also a creative agency that produces behind the scenes features and social content for some of the biggest dramas in the UK. As a business, we are forward thinking, embracing technology and constantly looking at ways to innovate.

How did you find out about the Clwstwr funding?

There was a launch event for Clwstwr and a real buzz in the Welsh media industry about it. I researched the organisation online and put in a bid.  I was then contacted by one of the Producers, Greg Mothersdale, who talked me through the Clwstwr aims and how it worked.

What inspired you to apply for funding?

I had an idea which I desperately wanted to develop to see if it would be technically possible. As a small indie we don't have the finance to be able to dedicate money to a big idea of that nature; Clwstwr funding was crucial in making it possible

Explain what you were aiming to do in your application

We wanted to investigate whether we could make a live interactive drama that the audience would be able to take part in from home, in real time. We had £70,600 of funding to see what we could make possible.

Describe the process you’ve been through since receiving the funding

We successfully built and tested the technology. We now need to look for a partner who can help develop the technology further. Once we have achieved this, we will look to commercialise the technology we built in the Clwstwr research stage.

What would you say were the main outcomes of the R&D?

We have a proven prototype that can now be taken onto the next stage of development. We’ve learnt how, when undergoing such an innovative idea, it's wise to partner with a company that has the technical ability to help bring your vision to life.

Where do you think you’ll go next, having carried out the R&D?

When we have the time and further investment or a partnership in place, we will look to see how we can develop the technology further, not just for drama but for live events and sport.
