The aim of this report is to produce a detailed systematic mapping of the video games sector in Wales.
Authored by Clwstwr Co-Investigators Richard Hurford and Professor Ruth McElroy of University of South Wales this new piece of research highlights the skills challenges and training needs of the industry across Wales.
It also explores the support that the video games industry receives in Wales, the UK, Europe and rest of the world. This report provides informed insights into a sector that is currently under-developed and less well understood than the film and TV sectors in the Cardiff Capital Region, and Wales more broadly as well as making a series of recommendations.
Co-author of the report, Clwstwr Co-Investigator Richard Hurford said: "This report provides a platform to highlight the impact of the games sector in Wales and to continue the work to support talent development. Industry and public sector organisations need to invest in better skills provision to support a sustainable Welsh video games sector and to capitalise on the rapidly growing demand for games skills across the whole of the screen sector, including areas such as virtual production.
Establishing sustainable growth in the community is crucial to helping create a successful, robust industry, and with the right support and training in place, the future looks bright.
