Clwstwr’s vision was for Wales to become a leader in moving towards green media production.
We spurred innovative ideas for carbon footprint reduction and a lower environmental impact, both with the projects we delivered and with the media sector across Wales.
To achieve this, we encouraged a cross sector approach with the media industry, including infrastructure and the supply chain.
Our aims were to support the research and development (R&D) of innovative solutions to lower the environmental impact of the media sector. We also encouraged and supported an innovative ecosystem of sustainability within the media sector in Wales, during and beyond the course of the Clwstwr programme. We aimed to collaborate with others to create a cross sector 'green' focussed screen community in Wales, share new knowledge and signpost the media sector to sustainable solutions as well as establish and inspire partnerships and collaboration.
Our activity:
Between 2019 and 2021, Clwstwr encouraged open funding applications for innovative research and development projects focused on environmental sustainability, through content or screen productions.
- In February 2022, Clwstwr was announced as a delivery partner in BFI and BAFTA albert's Screen New Deal: Transformational Plan. Through the Screen New Deal: Transformation Plan, the BFI, BAFTA albert and Arup are working with Creative Wales, Ffilm Cymru Wales and Clwstwr to conduct localised data collection and mapping. This will identify film and HETV-related services which already exist in the area, highlight service gaps and advance the creation of a location-based transformation plan to decarbonise TV and film production. - In June 2020, The Green Cymru Challenge Fund - a partnership from Clwstwr and Ffilm Cymru Wales - made available £75,000 in funding for individuals, organisations and collaborations across sectors – including media, academia, technology, transportation, energy, water and waste management - to research and develop new sustainable ways of working in film and TV. Three innovative environmental projects have been selected to be developed with support from their Green Cymru Challenge Fund. Find out more about these projects below.
